Frequently Asked Questions

How much professional-time does it take to make a screencast?
A 3-5 minute screencast typically takes 1-2 working days. Breaking this down, we first work to understand your requirements, draft a script, prepare a draft, iterate on the draft and then produce a final Internet-ready version.

Do more users try software after seeing a screencast?
Evidence from sites like ShowMeDo tells us that users are far more comfortable trying new software if they've seen it in action.

Can ProCasts help clients with publicity?
We upload our screencasts to our accounts at YouTube and Vimeo as long as the videos are relevant to the viewers of those sites and fit with their terms and conditions. We can also help with further publicity.

Why do users feel more comfortable after watching a screencast?
Screencasts show the user how they can use it to achieve their own goals - this is a very powerful motivator. The calm, confident voice of a professional screencaster will make the user feel in control and they will be ready and happy to test your software.

What examples of screencasts are available?
See many examples here, these show how screencasts are used to demonstrate application software, web-based applications and web sites.

Has ProCasts been interviewed and reviewed?
Yes, Jolt Magazine interviewed Ian and used further quotes in a series of articles on screencasting (1, 2). CNET use our BrandWatch screencast in a review of BrandWatch.com's service.

Can I make my own screencasts?
Yes, there are a selection of tools including CamTasia, SnapzPro and RecordMyDesktop that enable you to create your own screencasts. Set aside at least one day to plan the contents of a 3 minute demo, another to practice and a third to record and edit the screencast. Finally you will have to decide on how you'll add it to your site - you'll probably use FLV video or SWF animations.

Do you have a logo I can use?
Sure! Make a copy of these, they are licensed as Creative Commons By Attribution:
